Help & Support
Lessons
Do I need an account or internet to learn?
No. There is no sign-up. All 21 units, the audio and the phrasebook are inside the app and work offline.
I already speak some Farsi. Can I skip?
Yes. Tap ⚡ Skip on any unit for a short test (one slip allowed), or tap “Already know it” on any new word.
What is the romanization (finglish)?
Latin letters showing how each word is said in Tehran. Tap Me → How to read the romanization for the full key. You can hide it in Me → Learning.
How do I start over?
Me → Your data → Reset course progress.
Translator
Which iPhones support the offline translator?
iPhone 13 or newer (A15 chip or later). Older iPhones don't have enough memory for the speech model, so the app shows a message instead of the download button. Lessons, audio and the phrasebook work on every iPhone running iOS 17 or later.
How do I use it?
- Open the Translate tab.
- The first time, tap Download model: a one-time download of about 950 MB (use Wi-Fi), then wait for it to get ready.
- Tap the mic and let the other person talk. In Live mode each sentence is translated as they pause; in After mode everything is translated when you tap stop.
Does it work offline?
Yes, after the one-time download. It runs OpenAI's Whisper large-v3 speech model on your iPhone, so nothing is uploaded. Preparing it the first time can take a few minutes. You can delete it in Me → Translator to free the space.
How accurate is it?
It works best with clear speech, one sentence at a time, with the phone close to the speaker. Fast, slangy everyday Tehrani, mumbling, background noise or several people talking at once can come out less accurate or garbled. For long or fast talk, Live mode translates each sentence separately. It is machine translation: for anything important, double-check with a person. If a phrase comes out badly, email the example — failures help most.
Voices & accuracy
Are the voices real Iranian speakers?
No. Lesson audio is synthetic text-to-speech made with Microsoft's Persian neural voices (via edge-tts), not recordings of native speakers. The clips were then run through an automatic listening check: Whisper transcribes the audio and we compare what it hears with the intended Persian, and flagged clips get another look. That catches clear mistakes, but a machine check can't catch every unnatural stress, vowel or intonation.
Has the course been reviewed by a teacher or native-speaker panel?
Not yet. The words, spellings and romanization follow a written style guide and were checked in several review passes plus automatic linting, but no published teacher or native-speaker panel has signed off on the lessons. Treat it as a fast start, and check with the Persian speakers in your life.
A word sounds wrong. How do I report it?
In the app (version 1.0.1 and later), tap Report pronunciation under any new word card, or open the word in the Phrases tab and tap it there (long-press works too). Your Mail app opens with the word's ID, Persian spelling and finglish filled in; add what sounds off and send. Zood itself sends nothing. On 1.0, just email us the word.
Price & availability
Is Zood free?
Zood 1.0 is free: no in-app purchases, no ads, no account. If that ever changes in a future version, it will be stated on this page and in the App Store listing before it ships.
Can I get it in the EU?
Zood isn't available in the EU yet. It is on the App Store in most other countries.
Is there an Android or web version?
Not yet. Zood is an iPhone app for now. Android and web may come later, but there's no date. There is no sign-up list; this page will say when anything changes.
Does it work on iPad or Mac?
Zood is designed for iPhone (iOS 17 or later).
Privacy & data
What data does Zood collect?
None reaches the developer. Progress and history stay on your iPhone. The only exception is an email you choose to send yourself, such as a pronunciation report. Read the full Privacy Policy.
How do I delete my data?
Me → Your data → Reset course progress / Delete translation history. Deleting the app removes everything.
